In Wide Horizons School, the biggest problem is the girl’s bathroom walls are not fully covered. The bathroom’s size is 15’ x 9’ x 7’. However, some part are not cover at all. Then, the zinc has many holes.
Furthermore, the length of wall from neighbor’s house is 9 feet, but just 4 feet is covered with zinc. The rest 5 feet are empty and no door at all. According to coordinator, Myo Htun and former student, Mi Chan Lawi, they built girl’s bathroom in 2014 by using plastic to cover the whole and they built with simple design and not fully cover. Moreover, according to 12 female students, a man from neighboring house can see them while they are taking shower. Also, a man peep on them. As a result, the girls have to wear longyi and difficult to clean their body thoroughly and they felt shy and afraid to take shower. So, some female students have to take bath at night time. According to a female student, Mu Ku, she has chest congestion problem if she take shower at night time and some students reported suffering from runny nose and cough because of taking shower at night time.
To solve girl’s bathroom problem, WH 12 female students agreed that the best solution is to repair and cover the bathroom walls fully to provide a safe, private and hygienic bathroom for 12 female student at WH. They already had some of in-kind from WH program such as nail and old zincs. They hope, if they have bathroom fully cover, they will feel safe and they can clean their body thoroughly while they are taking shower. Then, the man from neighbor cannot peep on them.
On 8-10, February 2016, 10 WH students implemented girl’s bathroom. They destroyed the existing bathroom’s cover and covered with 6 new zincs and replaced with 3 new poles. At the washing dishes place, they covered with 2 new zincs and 1 old zinc to have fully from the floor. From the neighbor house part, they used curtain for the door.
